Currently, Sifton is seeking a dedicated Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join its team at the Riverstone Retirement Residence in London, Ontario. This part-time position involves evening shifts from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., including alternating weekends.

About the Role: Registered Practical Nurse

The RPN plays a vital role in ensuring high-quality nursing care for residents while overseeing the duties of personal care staff. The position requires strong leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for both residents and team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver all aspects of nursing care, ensuring residents' needs are met with professionalism and empathy.
  2. Supervise and guide personal care staff in their daily tasks.
  3. Participate in residence-wide quality improvement programs, including the VIP (Visions for Improving Performance) and Infection Prevention and Control initiatives.
  4. Assist in staff training and orientation sessions, as well as serve on assigned committees.
  5. Maintain effective communication with residents, families, team members, and other departments to ensure seamless care.
  6. Adhere to company policies and industry regulations, including the Ontario Retirement Communities Association and The Retirement Homes Act 2010.
  7. Support a safe and clean environment by identifying safety hazards and promoting safe practices.
  8. Complete incident or accident reports for team members and notify management of any potential Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims or serious issues.
  9. Stay informed about the WHMIS/GHS program and handle hazardous materials appropriately.

Required Skills and Experience

To succeed in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of nursing practices and techniques, particularly in caring for the elderly.
  2. A certificate or diploma in nursing and current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  3. Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as a willingness to learn other operations-related software.
  5. Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  7. Empathy, understanding, and respect for the elderly.

Additional Requirements:

  • Completion of a Police Records Check, including disclosure of any legal matters that could impact the role.
  • Documentation of a Tuberculosis Skin Test (TST) or a medical note confirming freedom from infectious diseases.
  • Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and integrated strategies in providing resident care.
